Southfield Public Schools (SPS) is a thriving school district with its own specialized marketing and public relations department.  As an intern at SPS you will be exposed to a wide-range of public relations experiences. With nearly 8,000 students and 14 schools, SPS provides a numerous opportunities to learn the skills needed to be a successful public relations practitioner.  Interns will gain experience in media relations, community marketing, research, public affairs and event management.

 Requirements:

  • Computer proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Knowledge of Publisher, InDesign, Photoshop or Illustrator preferred
  • Good communication skills
  • Writing experience preferred
  • Punctual, proactive and resourceful work ethic


Responsibilities:

  • Various clerical activities
  • Media monitoring and media clip compilation
  • Database development
  • News letter development
  • Writing media materials (based on skill level)
  • Background research
  • Event assistance
  • Calendar of events and announcements for SPS TV 16

Experience:

  • Multi-tasking on various projects
  • Working knowledge of office tools
  • Solid writing skills

Required: Potential candidates will need to complete a basic background check  (paid for by the district) prior to approval for an internship.
