As communications professionals, one of our greatest day-to-day challenges can be relaying messaging to or from an audience with which we are unfamiliar. The key to bringing awareness to a particular community lies in first listening to and understanding those constituents and then effectively formulating and communicating those messages to them.
Last year, Forbes Magazine predicted that 2016 would be a year of diversity and inclusion in business. But are there guiding principles that each of us can consider and follow in our work to that end? Are we listening or are we merely relying on each of our own perceptions?
In light of the tragic events this week in Orlando, fostering an understanding of the LGBT audience has perhaps never been more imperative. On Tuesday June 28th in Ferndale, PRSA Detroit will be hosting an already-planned program that all of each of us should plan to attend: “Connecting with the LGBT Community: Social Issues, Political Environment and The Press”.
For this important program, PRSA Detroit is teaming with Affirmations, Between The Lines and Equality Michigan to discuss issues related to the LGBT community and how, as public relations professionals, we can more professionally, compassionately and effectively communicate to this community.
It is a dialogue no one should miss.
