We’ve said it before, but we’ll say it again, PRSA Detroit is very fortunate to work with some exceptional Metro Detroit PRSSA Chapters. This month we’re featuring the Eastern Michigan University PRSSA chapter.
The chapter’s PRSSA Faculty Advisor/PR Assistant Professor, Dr. Jamie Ward, says it best, “Our chapter is small but mighty.” Currently, the chapter has 18 members but its successes are endless.
- The chapter was one of four groups accepted from across the nation to present at the PRSSA National Conference in Indianapolis in 2016, and again this year at the 2017 PRSSA National Conference in Boston.
- The chapter’s two annual events are always show stoppers! (1) A Student Development Conference – the most recent one in winter had over 50 students from all over the midwest. In fact, this year’s Student Development Conference is taking place on December 1. Here there are workshops on all things PR, such as media relations, social media and diversity. (2) A Speed Mentoring Event is something of speed dating for aspiring PR pros and seasoned PR pros to learn tips/tricks to help their academic and ‘real world’ careers.
- For the second time, they participated in the 2017 Bateman Competition, PRSSA’s premier national case study competition for public relations students. A team of five chapter members worked on the Campaign to Change Direction, where the goal: “is to change the culture of mental health in America so that all of those in need receive the care and support they deserve.” This lead the chapter to develop an integrated marketing campaign that consisted of five events that they carried out everywhere from their campus, to social media, to across the state. (Impressive!) They even scored a FOX2 Detroit placement.
As school kicks off this academic year the chapter has many workshops planned and is in search of scheduling agency tours all across Michigan! If you’re interested in hosting these AMAZING students please contact Jamie Ward at jward29(at)emich.edu.
Keeping rocking it Eagles!
